After many months of hard work on a project, there is nothing more rewarding than showcasing the final product and this custom home renovation is one we are incredibly proud of. Once just a tiny bungalow, this newly renovated Decatur home has been elevated into a modern white brick home filled with functional and flexible living spaces perfectly suited for its homeowner’s lifestyle. From a double duty kitchen and airy living room to the versatile office/bar, this custom renovation project has everything needed and more.
What’s better than one kitchen island? Two, of course! These homeowners wanted a convenient kitchen with lots of counterspace and we were more than happy to fulfil their request. Not only do these two islands offer a beautiful staggered look, but they also add functionality with one counter dedicated to food prep and the other to eating and entertaining. While both islands have deep kitchen sinks, they showcase very different designs. The island closest to the kitchen features the same black cabinetry and rustic countertops as the kitchen, while the second island features white cabinetry and marble countertops similar to the kitchen wall behind it. Centering the kitchen is a large stainless steel gas oven with an oversized hood for a modern look.
Opposite of the kitchen, the living room offers a fresh, updated feel with bright windows and high ceilings. The dark grey brick fireplace centering the room features the original brick from the home – in fact, the homeowner cut the original brick into a thin tile-style brick that we installed on the fireplace. This provides a stunning contrast to the crisp white walls and helps to define the space. On either side of the fireplace, homeowners have plenty of space for adding in bookcases or other large pieces of furniture that highlight the fireplace and double as additional storage space. One feature we particularly love in this space are the horizontal windows that frame the fireplace and add even more natural light to this welcoming living area. All the windows feature black framing that tie in the with darker details of the room.
This home is ideal for entertaining with its open living areas, but it also includes plenty of private space for work and relaxation, too. A well-lit room courtesy of an abundance of windows in the front of the home can be used a variety of different ways by the homeowner – a home office, homework space, formal living area – the options are endless! The dark walls add a touch of sophistication to the space which pair perfectly with the white beige wood flooring.
In addition to these modern and flexible home spaces, we also enhanced the owner’s suite to create a neutral, private space. Within this bedroom retreat, homeowners have access to a private bath featuring a light grey dual vanity. Tucked away under a large window is a freestanding soaking tub ideal for relaxing at-home spa nights. On the other side of the dual vanity is a roomy walk-in shower boasting the same marble paneled shower tiles featured throughout the rest of the bathroom, unique pebble flooring and sleek matte black shower finishes.
