Our homes used to simply be a place where we spent our lives outside of workplace, our errands and our daily commute. Nowadays, our homes have become our personal havens in which we spend most of our time. As a result, trends related to the design of our homes have changed to keep up with the demands of our everchanging lifestyles. Less than two months into 2021, our Level Craft team is already seeing several new design trends that are sure to stay throughout the year ahead.
Flexible Home Offices
With more individuals working from home and children learning remotely, there is now a strong need for flexible home living spaces that can be used as a productive work zone. Whether it’s a designated home office or secondary bedroom that can double as one, clients are looking for ways to fit these spaces into their custom homes and remodels. Those tight on space are even considering pocket offices that are perfect for little ones needing a quiet, distraction-free space to complete assignments or focus while learning on Zoom.
Usable Basements
Take your unfinished basement and transform it into a usable space within the home. More time spent at home means more opportunities to take up new hobbies and find creative ways to keep everyone entertained. One way our clients are doing this is by finishing their basement. In fact, several of our clients have come to us seeking extra space within their home for at-home gyms, children’s playrooms and home entertainment centers. The size of basements makes them the perfect place for a homeowner’s miscellaneous activities, as well as their storage needs.
In-Law Suites and ADUs
After so much time spent away from close family and friends over the past year, people are seeking new ways to be together for extended periods of time. One solution to this that we are seeing is the addition of in-law suites and accessory dwelling units (ADUs). In-law suites within the home keep family and friends close while offering private conveniences like ensuite baths and kitchenettes that make guests feel more at home. Many of our new clients are choosing to add more privacy for their long-term guests with ADUs. These small units can be self-contained or transformed from a home garage. Not only can these ADUs serve as an excellent in-law suite, but they can also be rented out and provide homeowners with added potential revenue.
Green Kitchen Cabinetry
When it comes to kitchen cabinet trends, green is the new navy. Considering the color green embodies renewal and growth, it is no surprise that it has become a trendy choice for kitchen spaces. Not only that, but green is also a neutral enough color to not be over the top yet bold enough to make a statement. While most homeowners are steering toward the muted sage and deep olive greens for a more subtle look, we are loving the bright color pop brought on by soft lime and citron shades.
White Home Interiors and Exteriors
One long-time favorite trend that is here to stay for 2021 is white home interiors and exteriors. While many might think an all-while color scheme would feel stark and cold, these white interiors and exteriors actually serve as the perfect blank canvas for creating a space that never goes out of style. Not only that, but crisp white shades also help to open up the home and makes the space appear bigger, brighter, cleaner and much more inviting. To add to your new home’s white interior and exterior, consider mixing textures such as brick, marble, molding and other fun textures that give a bit of oomph to the otherwise neutral look.
Energy Efficient Construction
The need for cleaner, greener and more energy efficient home is more important now than ever before. Not only do people want to support greener construction methods, but they also want the features within their homes to be more efficient and healthier for those living within it. Some efficient features we are seeing in our most recent custom homes and renovations include homes that are prepped for solar, generator-ready homes and energy-saving electronics.
